Tragic Kingdom

My choice tonight is for the Californian Ska Album Tragic Kingdom. No Doubt are a band that I adored when I was in Primary School and High School. I loved Tragic Kingdom back then as much as I do today. It's one of those albums that leaves a nostalgic sort of feeling when I listen to it now.

Tragic Kingdom is No Doubts most successful album to date. The album has sold eighteen million copies to date. It took two and a half years to make and was produced in eleven different studios. The album was their album that shot them into rock stardom.

For me Tragic Kingdom is their best body of work. It's punk rock, it's Californian, it's also extremely personal in terms of some of the songs lyrics. It's a well known fact that Gwen Stefani and Bassist Tony Kanal were together for years. Their breakup is what inspired one of my choices of lyric and the other one while very upbeat is still a personal choice. I hope you like my two choices of lyrics from Tragic Kingdom.

SUNDAY MORNING

Sappy pathetic little me
That was the girl I used to be
You had me on my knees

I'd trade you places any day
I'd never thought you could be that way
But you looked like me on Sunday

You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you well... So well

You're trying my shoes on for a change
They look so good but fit so strange
Out of fashion, so I can't complain

You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you... So well

I know who I am, But who are you?
You're not looking you used to
You're on the other side of the mirror
So nothing's looking quite as clear
Thank you for turning on the lights
Thank you, now you're the parasite
I didn't think you had it in you
And now you're looking like I used to

You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
And you want me badly
You cannot have me
I thought I knew you
But I've got a new view
I thought I knew you well... Oh well

DON'T SPEAK

You and me
We used to be together
Every day together always

I really feel
That I'm loosing my best friend
I can't believe
This could be the end

It looks as though you're letting go
And if it's real
Well I don't want to know

Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts

Our memories
They can be inviting
But some are altogether
Mighty frightening

As we die
Both you and I
With my head in my hands
I sit and cry

Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts

It's all ending
I gotta stop pretending who we are

You and me
I can see us dying... Are we?

Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurt
No, no
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
And I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't tell me cause it hurts

I know what you're saying
So please stop explaining

Don't speak
Don't speak
Don't speak... Oh
I know what you're thinking
And I don't need your reasons

I know you're good
I know you're good
I know you're real good... Oh
La da da da, La da da da da
Don't, don't

Oh, oh
Hush, hush darling
Hush, hush darling
Hush, hush don't tell me cause it hurts
Hush, hush darling
Hush, hush darling
Hush, hush don't tell me cause it hurts
