A Rush Of Blood To The Head

Coldplay are a band that I've loved ever since their first album Parachutes was released on the public. Their second album A Rush Of Blood To The Head is still their crowning glory for me. It's the album that houses their best work. I have enjoyed every album they've released so far and yet to be disappointed by them. They are one of the rare bands that have gotten it right over and over again.

A Rush Of Blood To The Head is a more rock orientated album. There are plenty of ballad inspired rock songs on the album just like their first album but for me this album has a more rock feel to it. The album was critically praised and to date has sold an estimated thirteen and a half million copies. Pretty good for a band and their second album.

I have chosen three songs to inspire my choice in lyrical content for this entry. I could have added more but I think three is enough and it probably won't be the last Coldplay album to make my blog. I have chosen two singles from the album and one song that was never released as a single. The song that wasn't released is still my favorite song of the album and it will be my last entry. I have heard people state that it's a song about the World Trade Centre Terrorist Attacks. I still personally think it's more of a break up song but a lot of people have different opinions of it, so let me know your opinion.

THE SCIENTIST

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

Tell me your secrets and ask me your questions
Oh, let's go back to start
Running in circles, coming up tails
Heads on a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start

I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

But tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start
Running in circles, chasing our tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh, it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start

Oh ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ah ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
Oh ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ah ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh

CLOCKS

The lights go out and I can't be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought me down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead singing

Come out of things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head
And a trouble that can't be named
A tiger's waiting to be tamed singing

You are
You are

Confusion never stops
Closing walls and ticking clocks
Gonna come back and take you home
I could not stop that you now know singing

Come out upon my seas
Cursed missed opportunities
Am I apart of the cure?
Or am I part of the disease? singing

You are
You are
You are
You are

You are
You are

And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares

You are
You are

Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go

A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD

He said "I'm gonna buy this place and burn it down"
"I'm gonna put it six feet underground"
He said "I'm gonna buy this place and watch it fall"
Stand here beside me baby in the crumbling walls

"Oh I'm gonna buy this place and start a fire"
Stand here until I fill all your heart's desires
Because I'm gonna buy this place and see it burn
And do back the things it did to you in return

He said "I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war"
If you can tell me something worth fighting for
Oh and I'm gonna buy this place, that's what I said
Blame it upon a rush of blood to the head

Honey, all the movements you're starting to make
See me crumble and fall on my face
And I know the mistakes that I made
See it all disappear without trace

And they call as they beckon you on
They said "Start as you mean to go on"
Start as you mean to go on

He said "I'm gonna buy this place and see it go"
And stand here beside my baby watch the orange glow
Some'll laugh and some just sit and cry
You just sit down there and you wonder why

So I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war
If you can tell me something worth fighting for
And I'm gonna buy this place, that's what I said
Blame it upon a rush of blood to the head, oh to the head

Honey, all the movements you're starting to make
See me crumble and fall on my face
And I know the mistakes that I made
See it all disappear without trace

And they call as they beckon you on
They say "Start as you mean to go on"
As you mean to go on
As you mean to go on

So meet me by the bridge
Meet me by the lane
When am I gonna see that pretty face again
Meet me by the road
Meet me where I said
Blame it all upon a rush of blood to the head

Tragic Kingdom

My choice tonight is for the Californian Ska Album Tragic Kingdom. No Doubt are a band that I adored when I was in Primary School and High School. I loved Tragic Kingdom back then as much as I do today. It's one of those albums that leaves a nostalgic sort of feeling when I listen to it now.

Tragic Kingdom is No Doubts most successful album to date. The album has sold eighteen million copies to date. It took two and a half years to make and was produced in eleven different studios. The album was their album that shot them into rock stardom.

For me Tragic Kingdom is their best body of work. It's punk rock, it's Californian, it's also extremely personal in terms of some of the songs lyrics. It's a well known fact that Gwen Stefani and Bassist Tony Kanal were together for years. Their breakup is what inspired one of my choices of lyric and the other one while very upbeat is still a personal choice. I hope you like my two choices of lyrics from Tragic Kingdom.

SUNDAY MORNING

Sappy pathetic little me
That was the girl I used to be
You had me on my knees

I'd trade you places any day
I'd never thought you could be that way
But you looked like me on Sunday

You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you well... So well

You're trying my shoes on for a change
They look so good but fit so strange
Out of fashion, so I can't complain

You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you... So well

I know who I am, But who are you?
You're not looking you used to
You're on the other side of the mirror
So nothing's looking quite as clear
Thank you for turning on the lights
Thank you, now you're the parasite
I didn't think you had it in you
And now you're looking like I used to

You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
And you want me badly
You cannot have me
I thought I knew you
But I've got a new view
I thought I knew you well... Oh well

DON'T SPEAK

You and me
We used to be together
Every day together always

I really feel
That I'm loosing my best friend
I can't believe
This could be the end

It looks as though you're letting go
And if it's real
Well I don't want to know

Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts

Our memories
They can be inviting
But some are altogether
Mighty frightening

As we die
Both you and I
With my head in my hands
I sit and cry

Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts

It's all ending
I gotta stop pretending who we are

You and me
I can see us dying... Are we?

Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurt
No, no
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
And I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't tell me cause it hurts

I know what you're saying
So please stop explaining

Don't speak
Don't speak
Don't speak... Oh
I know what you're thinking
And I don't need your reasons

I know you're good
I know you're good
I know you're real good... Oh
La da da da, La da da da da
Don't, don't

Oh, oh
Hush, hush darling
Hush, hush darling
Hush, hush don't tell me cause it hurts
Hush, hush darling
Hush, hush darling
Hush, hush don't tell me cause it hurts

Eyes Open

My album choice is for a band that I originally had no love for or even desired to listen to them after their first single was unleashed on the Australian public. The single in question was Chasing Cars. This was played so much so by the third day I was ready to slit my own throat. Everyone I knew adored it but me. It was not until I heard Hands Open that I realised that they may have something more then what was originally offered.

I ended up getting on YouTube and listening to a few songs and instantly went out and got their album. Besides that one awful song the rest of Eyes Open is great, it also contains two songs that I would now consider in my favorites if I ever had to compile a list of songs. You will see my choices for lyrical content and it will be both of my favorite songs that make my entry.

The album went on to sell an estimated six and a half million copies and is their most successful album to date. The album is what I would describe as an alternative rock album but the two choices of have chosen as lyric choices are an almost saddening rock ballad and fourth single and the other choice was their fifth single which is almost like a faced paced rock song but the lyrics are almost heartbreaking in a way. I hope you guys like my choices and let me know what you think of the choices in this entry.

SET THE FIRE TO THE THIRD BAR

I find the map and draw a straight line
Over rivers, farms and state lines
The distance from here to where you'd be
It's only finger-lengths that I see

I touch the place
Where I'd find your face
My fingers in creases
Of distant dark places

I hang my coat up in the first bar
There is no peace that I've found so far
The laughter penetrates my silence
As drunken men find flaws in science

Their words, mostly noises
Ghosts with just voices
Your words in my memory
Are like music to me

I'm miles from where you are
I lay down on the cold ground
And I, I pray that something picks me up
And sets me down in your warm arms

After I have traveled so far
We'd set the fire to the third bar
We'd share each other like an island
Until exhausted, Close our eyelids

And dreaming, pick up from
The last place we left off
Your soft skin is weeping
A joy you can't keep in

I'm miles from where you are
I lay on the cold ground
And I, I pray that something picks me up
And sets me down in your warm arms

I'm miles from where you are
I lay on the cold ground
And I, I pray that something picks me up
And sets me down in your arms

OPEN YOUR EYES

All this feels strange and untrue
And I wont waste a minute without you
My bones ache, my skin feels cold
And I'm getting so tired and so old

The anger swells in my guts
And I wont feel these slices and cuts
I want so much to open your eyes
Cause I need you to look into mine

Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes

Get, get out, get away from these liars
Cause they don't get your soul or your fire
Take my hand, knot your fingers through mine
And we'll walk from this dark room for the last time

Every minute from this minute now
We can do what we like anywhere
I want so much to open your eyes
Cause I need you to look into mine

Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes

Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes

All this feels strange and untrue
And I wont waste a minute without you

Rated R

My choice of album to quote lyrically tonight is the complete 180 Rihanna Album Rated R. Her fourth studio album I have heard people describe it as Complex, Emotional, Dark, Bleak, Brave, Aggressive and Raw just to name a few things. Others have said it's her worst album to date and a complete disappointment. To me Rated R is her most mature album and also her best album she's released.

Rihanna's three previous album have been very pop and dance orientated with hints of R'n'B thrown into the mix. Rated R on the other hand is a very dark R'n'B album with hints of hip hop and pop. What makes the album so dark is that it was her return to the music world after her being beaten into a pulp by dickhead and then boyfriend Chris Brown. It was public and messy. But the positive that came out of it was a completely different direction for Rihanna it also showed that no one agrees with this kind of abuse so her album was strong and his bombed. Not only did his album bomb but his career is basically at a stand still while she goes on strong and proves that she can come out of this stronger then he ever could or probably will. The begging and public apologies haven't fool no one.

The album hints a lot at the ordeal and the beating. No matter what people say it's there and it hits hard. A lot of the record is also very nasty and almost like a warning of revenge to Chris Brown. This is no Music Of The Sun, A Girl Like Me or Good Girl Gone Bad. This is her at her darkest and at her most honest and emotional. It's also her first record to feature a parental advisory sticker on it as she's not afraid to drop the word bitch and fuck through out the album.

My four choices to reference tonight are one song that is almost one of the greatest songs I've heard in terms of lyrical content. When a song compares the ending of a relationship to a murder scene it's so poetically fucked up it's almost perfect. Another is the revenge song and the other two are her dark first single and a lighter hearted song compared to the rest of the album. Hope you guys like my choices and agree or let me know what your favorite songs off Rated R.

RUSSIAN ROULETTE

Take a breath, take it deep
Calm yourself, he says to me
If you play, you play for keeps
Take the gun, and count to three
I'm sweating now, moving slow
No time to think, my turn to go

And you can see my heart beating
You can see it through my chest
Said I'm terrified, but I'm not leaving
I know that I must pass this test
So just pull the trigger

Say a prayer to yourself
He says "Close your eyes, sometimes it helps"
And then I get a scary thought
That he's here means his never lost

And you can see my heart beating
Oh, you can see it through my chest
Said I'm terrified, but I'm not leaving
Know that I must pass this test
So just pull the trigger

As my life flashes before my eyes
I'm wondering will I ever see another sunrise?
So many won't get the chance to say goodbye
But it's too late to think of the value of my life

And you can see my heart beating
Oh, you can see it through my chest
Said I'm terrified, but I'm not leaving, no
Know that I must pass this test

You can see my heart beating
Oh, you can see it through my chest
I'm terrified, but I'm not leaving, no
Know that I must pass this test
So just pull the trigger

FIRE BOMB

Gunfire left a hole in the tank
Losing gasoline
Fire is on my trail and he's after me
Hope it don't get here
Before I get where I'm going
I gotta get where I'm going
Take off my mask to breathe

You could have been apart of a masterpiece
Fluid in the breaks was the last to leave
That's the thing
Where I'm going, I don't need my breaks

Can't wait to see your face
When your front windows break
And I come crashing through

The lovers need to clear the road
Cause this thing is ready to blow

I just wanna to set on fire
So I wont have to burn alone
Then you, then you'll know where I'm coming from
Fire bomb
Fire bomb

Seems cold but baby
No it doesn't have to be
Microwaving our metal tragedy
Watching it burn and it's beautiful and it's blue
And it's pitiful when it's through
It's the other half of me

I didn't do it, you lit the match for me
Now we're flying from the blast, baby
That's the thing
Where we're going, We don't need no breaks

Can't wait to see your face
When the front windows break
And I come crashing through

The lovers need to clear the road
Cause this thing is ready to blow

I just wanna set you on fire
So I don't have to burn alone
Then you, then you'll know where I'm coming from
Fire bomb
Fire bomb

Baby, we were killing them
They couldn't handle the millionth degree
We were criminals
As we were burning the world
Called the police
Fire department, ambulance
You can call me crazy, cause I believe
The only move for me and you
Is to go out blazing

The lovers need to clear the road
Cause this thing is ready to blow

I just wanna set you on fire
So I wont have to burn alone
Then you, then you'll know where I'm coming from
Fire bomb
Fire bomb

G4L

I lick the gun when I'm done
Cause I know that revenge is sweet, so sweet
This is a gang, ladies thing
Baby bang, tell me what you need

Any motherfucker wanna disrespect?
Playing with fire gonna get you wet
How'd it feel down there on your knees?
I got this girl's like a soldier
Trip and it's going down, down, down

I'm ready to roll
Girl, I'm with you with it get you to get me
So come on let's go
Bitch, I'm with you, If you with it you with me

You know I'm down, I'm down for life
Load and reload it, let's go
Gangster for life
Til the day that I die

I promise I'm standing by
Cause you know that I'm down
You know I'm down
Gangster for life

We driving by with them headlights off
We know where you stay
Know what you did, We don't play that shit

Acting like a bitch gonna get you hurt
Breaking lives down to the knees, oh

I'm ready to roll
Girl, I'm with you with it get you to get me
So come on let's go
Bitch, I'm with you, if you with it you with me

You know I'm down, I'm down for life
Load and reload it, let's go
Gangster for life
Til the day that I die

I promise I'm standing by
Cause you know that I'm down
You know I'm down
Gangster for life

Girls, come on we ain't done yet
Got a lot to handle
We ain't took over the world
We're an army
Better yet a navy
Better yet, crazy, guns in the air

Guns in the air, guns in the air
Can't hear this again when you come around here
We got our guns, got our guns
We got our guns, got our guns
We got our guns in the motherfucking air, oh

I'm down for life
Gangster for life
I'm down for life
Gangster for life

You know I'm down, down for life
Load and reload it, let's go
Gangster for life
Til the day that I die

I promise I'm standing by
Cause you know that I'm down
You know I'm down
Gangster for life

I lick the gun when I'm done
Cause I know that revenge is sweet

COLD CASE LOVE

On my roof
Dark, and I'm burning a rose
I don't need proof
I'm torn apart and you know

What you did to me was a crime
Cold Case Love
And I let you reach me one more time
But that's enough

Your love was breaking the law
But I needed a witness
So wake me up when it's over
It don't make any difference
Will it ever be solved or am I taking the fall?
The truth was there all along
Tell me how did we miss it?

We opened up a cold case love
And it got the best of us
And now prints, pictures and white outlines
Are all that's left at the scene of a crime
A cold case love

Should have investigated
But love blinded eyes couldn't see no
And then I tried to cage it
But your love ain't the kind you can keep
Release me now cause I've did my time
Of this cold case love
My heart's no longer cold and you gonna find
I've had enough

Your love was breaking the law
But I needed a witness
So wake me up when it's over
It don't make any difference
Will it ever be solved or am I taking the fall?
Truth was there all along
Tell me how did we miss it

We opened up a cold case love
And it got the best of us
And now prints, pictures and white outlines
Are all that's left at the scene of the crime
Of a cold case love

We lost our way
Took this too far
Now I'll never find the pieces of my heart
We've lost enough
Looking for a truth
That was here all along

Cold case love
And it got the best of us
And now prints, pictures and white outlines
Are all that's left at the scene of the crime
Of a cold case love

We opened up a cold case love
And it got the best of us
And now prints, pictures and white outlines
Are all that's left at the scene of the crime
Of a cold case love

Celebrity Skin

Hole's third album Celebrity Skin is my lyric inspiration for today's entry. I adore Hole and Courtney Love. Some may say she is a train wreck or even that she is a bad artist. To me she is a rock goddess and what pisses people off is that I enjoy Hole more then Nirvana. I always have and always will. One thing that sets Hole up as a better band to listen to is simple, Courtney Love oozes pain and heartache when she sings. I believe everything she says when she sings. And that's a major reason for my love of this band.

Celebrity Skin was an album that many seen as a more pop orientated move for Hole. Gone was the gritty grunge and a more clean sound emerged from the band. I still think this is very much a rock album but it's almost as if the band went from garage to studio in the sense that this album sounds like a million dollars.

I will include three songs to update from this album. Two of the songs that I've chosen I have been referenced back to Kurt Cobain and the third choice is just a fantastic metaphor for trying to expose someones inner thoughts and that's how I've always seen it. I think my three choices are the three hardest hitting songs from Celebrity Skin. I hope you like my choices and let me know what some of your favorite tracks are from this excellent album.

MALIBU

Crash and burn
All the stars explode tonight
How'd you get so desperate?
How'd you stay alive?
Help me please
Burn the sorrow from your eyes
Oh come on, be alive again
Don't lay down and die

Hey, hey, you know what to do
Oh baby, drive away to Malibu

Get well soon
Please don't go any higher
How are you so burnt?
When you're barely on fire
Cry to the angels
I'm gonna rescue you
I'm gonna set you free tonight, baby
Pour over me

Hey, hey, we're all watching you
Oh baby, fly away to Malibu
Cry to the angels
That swallow you
Go and part the sea, yeah, in Malibu

And the sun goes down
I watch you slip away
And the sun goes down
I walk into the waves
And the sun goes down
I watch you slip away
And I walk

And I knew, love would tear you apart
Oh, and I knew the darkest secret of your heart

Hey, hey, I'm gonna follow you
Oh baby, fly away, yeah to Malibu
Oceans of angels
Oceans of stars
Down by the sea is where you drown your scars

I can't be near you
The light just radiates
I can't be near you
The light just radiates

DYING

You see the cripple dance
Pay your money, baby
Nows your chance
Eyes like Cyanide

I am so dumb
Just beam me up
I've had it all forever
I've had enough

Remember, you promised me
I'm dying, I'm dying, please
I want to, I need to be
Under your skin

Our love is quicksand
So easy to drown
They steal the gravity, yeah
From moving ground

Remember, you promised me
I'm dying, I'm dying, please
I want to, I need to be
Under your skin

And now I understand
You leave with everything
You leave with everything, I am
Memory

And now I know that love is dead
You've come to bury me
There's nothing left here to pretend
Anything

Remember, you promised me
I'm dying, I'm dying, please
I want so, I need to be, ah
Under your skin

And I'm dying
I'm dying please
I'm dying
I'm dying please
I'm dying
I'm dying please
I'm under your skin
Under your skin

PETALS

She's the angel on top of the tree
Sugarheart, here she comes
She's going to fall on me

Innocence was our fire
We told the truth
I miss the sweet boys
In the summer of their youth

Tear the petals off of you
Make you tell the truth
Tear the petals off of you
Tear the petals off of you
Make you tell the truth
Tear the petals off of you

They will make you so
So cynical
The fire burns, the flesh destroys
The past that made us old

She's the grace of this world
She's too pure
For the likes of this world
This world is a whore

Tear the petals off of you
Make you tell the truth
Tear the petals off of you
Tear the petals off of you
Make you tell the truth
Tear the petals off of you

I wait till mine and
Hey, it's all mine
Hey, it's all mine
Never knew what I could be
All the darling buds of May
They fall with no sound
They carry you down
They carry you down
Ooooooooo Ohhhhhhhhh
Ooooooooo

All the Lillie's bloomed and blossomed
Wilted
and they're shivering
I can't stop this withering
Oh, this world is a war

Tear the petals off of you
Make you tell the truth
Tear the petals off of you
Tear the petals off of you
Make you tell the truth
Tear the petals off of you

Tear the petals off of you
Make you tell the truth
Tear the petals off of you
Tear the petals off of you
Make you tell the truth
Tear the petals off of you

You Gotta Go There To Come Back

You Gotta Go There To Come Back is one of those albums that I blind bought because of one song being in a movie. I am glad I gave this album a shot as it became one of my favorite albums ever. I like to think I have a connection with this album as it was released on my birthday and one of my all time favorite Stereophonics songs was written on my birthday. It's a pretty silly thought but I like to think that is the reason I found this album as the song in the movie was written on my birthday which I found out when I tracked down the album.

The album to me is a much darker and almost saddening affair compared to other Stereophonic albums. Reading up on the album and just from some of the songs this album is almost like a therapy session. Lead Singer Kelly Jones has stated that some of the songs were to do with an ex that he broke up with after many years and shit hit the fan. These are the songs that I love most on the album. Sad to know the songs are also some of the critics most hated. Regardless the album for me is an amazing album and I would recommend anyone take a listen who like their rock moody.

I am going to put four sets of lyrics in this entry as I think it was hard to only choose three. All four choices of lyrics as you can guess are what I would describe as the saddest songs on the album. You will see from the lyrics they are all choices that I would say are dedicated to trying to be happy after a relationship or not being happy in one and trying to come to terms with it. I love these four songs and I think they're the best songs on this album. So hopefully you guys like my choices as well.

MAYBE TOMORROW

I've been down
And I'm wondering why
These little black clouds
Keep walking around
With me
With me

It wastes time
And I'd rather be high
Think I'll walk me outside
And buy a rainbow smile
But be free
They're all free

So maybe tomorrow
I'll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I'll find my way home

I look around at a beautiful life
Been the upper side of down
Been the inside of out
But we breathe
We breathe

I wanna breeze and an open mind
I wanna swim in the ocean
Wanna take my time for me
All me

So maybe tomorrow
I'll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I'll find my way home

So maybe tomorrow
I'll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I'll find my way home

So maybe tomorrow
I'll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I'll find my way home

I'M ALRIGHT (YOU GOTTA GO THERE TO COME BACK)

I'll drink another drink for you
One, Two, Three, Four, Five , Once I drank a fish alive
I'll drop another pill for you
Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Did it before, I'll do it again

I'll tell another joke for you
Did you here the one about the one that looks like you
I'll sleep with sleep around for you
Why don't you scratch my back and chew the tongue I chew

I'm alright
I'm alright

I'll tell another lie for you
Tell you what you wanna hear, but that don't make it true
I'll wear another smile for you
That way you know I'm fine and having fun with you

I'll draw another line for you
That way you know I'm hip, That way you know I'm cool
I'll smoke another smoke for you
I'll blow back in your mouth and you can blow back too

I'm alright
I'm alright
You gotta go there to come back

I'll take another punch for you
Tie my hands behind my back, that way you cannot lose
I'll make another pound for you
So you can drive your motor car, and drive you to the moon

I'm alright
I'm alright

You. Me. Us. Free... We're alright, alright

Love. Pain. Hate. Rain... We're alright, alright

Give. Take. Time. Place... We're alright, alright

RAINBOWS AND POTS OF GOLD

I heard you're doing well
Selling art and everything
I like you're stuff, good for you
I'll buy a piece or maybe two

Do you ever think of me?
Do you remember all our stupid dreams?
Rainbows and pots of gold
So much to prove before we got old

I took you places round the world
I miss you're face sometimes you know
You took my picture a thousand times
I bought them back, I don't mind

I lost my way but found my track
I'm sorry If I never listened back
I've been round, I've been up and down
And you missed the one we dressed like clowns

And how's your car and how's your life?
How's my friend, when she gonna be your wife?
I'm sitting up writing down
These things I sometimes dream about

I knew your number off by heart
It's the only one I like to talk
It wasn't me using you
I trusted you one of the few

And we had some laughs, had some rows
But in the end the walls came down
You like the place I'm living now
It's a shame you can't come around

And I've grown a lot since we last spoke
Got myself together, fixed what was broke
I wonder if we'll talk again
Or drink together just like then

I suppose it's different now it's new
Whoever points the finger at who
I really hope you're happy both of you
And maybe sometimes you miss me too

SINCE I TOLD YOU IT'S OVER

I'm black and blue from the wind and the rain
Said I'm sorry for the lies and the pain
I never ever meant to make you cry
If I could take you back, you know I would
I wanna burn up and die

So take a look at me now
Since I told you it's over
You got a hole in your heart
I'll find a four leaf clover
You can't tell me this now
This far down the line
That you're never ever gonna get over me

You've seen a cross, It's a cross I bare
You're drinking, hard up, living without a hope or care
You're making do to please, see what makes you smile
You're not around for long
You gotta see what's gonna move your life right along

So take a look at me now
Since I told you it's over
You got a hole in your heard
I'll find a four leaf clover
You can't tell me this now
This far down the line
That you're never ever gonna get over me

I'm lost
I'm cold
I'm getting old
My head is filled with lies I told

I've been down
I've been around
But I've fallen on my own two feet
And I've left you out to drown
I never meant for that

I look around, sometimes I stare
I think back now and then, I hope you know I care
I walked away that day, trying to treat you right
But you were on you're track, It was me turning back
I left you freezing outside

So take a look at me now
Since I told you it's over
You got a hole in your heart
I'll find you a four leaf clover
You can't tell me this now
This far down the line
That you're never ever gonna get over me
Never get over me
Never get over me

But you were on your track
It was me turning back
I left you freezing outside

So take a look at me now
Since I told you it's over
You got a hole in your heart
I'll find a four leaf clover
You can't tell me this now
This far down the line

Confetti

Confetti is an album that many seen as a step in the wrong direction for Australian band Little Birdy. I however see it not as their best album personally but a completely different direction for the band. The album is almost bordering on country with alternative indie rock. I am not a fan of country music besides the odd artist like Dixie Chicks or Johnny Cash. But Little Birdy with their third album Confetti deliver for me what is probably their most personal album to date.

I have loved Little Birdy ever since their first EP. I remember seeing them in a little pub basement when they were on the verge of releasing their first album BigBigLove. This for me was my start of adoration for the band. I have enjoyed every album they have released and like I said while it's not their best album it's certainly their most personal and Katy Steele delivers some of her best work.

For me not many female artists can make album after album of songs that are hinted at the darker side of love or even heartbreak and break ups. But Katy Steele's voice and lyrics have gotten me through some tough times and relationships just because a lot of her lyrics are relate able when it comes to matters of the heart. I will include two set of lyrics and they are both for the opening and closing songs of the album and also my favorite songs of Confetti.

BROTHER

My brother he taught me how to fly

My papa he taught me how to cry

Wait for me
Wait for me to show you
Wait for me
Wait for me to show you

My mama she touched me down my soul
And I feel it
I feel it most

So show me your soul and I'll show you mine
So show me your soul and I'll show you mine

Woop!

So who's gonna love you now baby?
Who's gonna love you now baby?
When you're gonna fight in that war at sea
Get on that ship and sail back to me

So who's gonna love you now baby?
Who's gonna love you now baby?
When you're gonna fight in that war at sea
Get on that ship and sail back to me

So who's gonna love you now baby?
Who's gonna love you now baby?
When you're gonna fight in that war at sea
Get on that ship and sail back to me
Get on that ship and sail back to me

CONFETTI

Someone will take you whole and you'll see that it is right
Someone will take you whole and you'll see that it is right

Cause my heart isn't confetti
My heart isn't confetti

I haven't gone very far, oh no
The road is long enough for two

Cause my heart isn't confetti
My heart isn't confetti

Oh if I lose this time, oh no
I'll wake and I'll hide in the dark, for two
But basically why, basically, I wanna taste this

Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness

The Smashing Pumpkins are one of my all time favorite bands. In the early nineties they basically shaped my taste in music in terms of opening me up to the whole grunge rock scene. It wasn't Nirvana for me. It was Billy Corgan and his band The Smashing Pumpkins. To me Corgan is one of the greatest musicians of the grunge/rock era. He is what I would describe as an artist. Every album they have released has been something of an evolution.

With their third studio album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness they released their most ambitious work. The two disc epic that housed twenty eight tracks and went onto sell what many have opinions about but it's been estimated at around eighteen million copies.

The album for me and my choices will be a big one as it was so hard to choose just three off this epic album. My choices involve four songs from the album. I had to narrow it down to my four favorites and they all display my favorite lyrics on the album as well. Two of the lyrical choices are singles that were released to the public. My other two choices are two of what I think of as the most personal songs on the album.

I guess I can relate to those two personal songs in terms of lyrical content much more then any of the other songs on the album. Still I hope you enjoy my choices and let me know if you guys agree or what your favorite lyrics off Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness are as I'd love to hear some other peoples opinions on their choices.

SINGLES

TONIGHT, TONIGHT

Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave

Without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel

Believe, believe in me, believe
That life can change
That you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, We're different tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight

And you know you're never sure
But you're sure you could be right
If you help yourself up to the light
And the embers never fade in your city by the lake
The place where you were born

Believe, believe in me, believe
In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight

We'll crucify the insincere tonight
We'll make things right
We'll feel it all tonight
We'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
The impossible is possible tonight
Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight

BULLET WITH BUTTEFLY WINGS

The world is a vampire, sent to drain
Secret destroyers, hold you up to the flames
And what do I get, for my pain?
Betrayed desires, and a piece of the game

Even though I know, I suppose I'll show
All my cool and cold, like old job

Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage
Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage

Now I'm naked, nothing but an animal
But can you fake it, for just one more show?
And what do you want?
I want to change
And what have you got, When you feel the same?

Even though I know, I suppose I'll show
All my cool and cold, like old job

Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage
Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage

Tell me I'm the only one
Tell me there's no other one
Jesus was the only son, yeah
Tell me I'm the chosen one
Jesus was the only son for you

Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage
Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage
And someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage

Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a
Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a
Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage

Tell me I'm the only one
Tell me there's no other one
Jesus was the only son for you

And I still believe that I cannot be saved
And I still believe that I cannot be saved
And I still believe that I cannot be saved
And I still believe that I cannot be saved

PERSONAL

TO FORGIVE

Ten times removed
I forget about where it all began
Bastard son of a bastard son of
A wild eyed child of the sun
And right as rain, I'm not the same but
I feel the same, I feel nothing

Holding back the fool again
Holding back the fool pretends
I forget to forget nothing is important
Holding back the fool again

I sensed my loss
Before I even learned to talk
And I remember my birthdays
Empty party afternoons wont come back

Holding back the fool again
Holding back the fool pretends
I forget to forget nothing is important
Holding back the fool again
I forget to forget me
I forget to forget you see
Nothing is important to me

I knew my loss
Before I ever learned to speak
And all along, I knew it was wrong
But I played along, With my birthday song

Holding back the fool again
Holding back the fool pretends
I forget to forget nothing is important
Holding back the fool again

THIRTY-THREE

Speak to me in a language I can hear
Humour me before I have to go
Deep in thought I forgive everyone
As the cluttered streets greet me once again
I know I can't be late
Supper's waiting on the table
Tomorrow's just an excuse away
So I pull up my collar and face the cold, on my own
The earth laughs beneath my heavy feet
At the blasphemy in my old jangly walk
Steeple guide me to my heart and home
The sun is out and up and down again
I know I'll make it, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
And you can make it last, forever you
You can make it last, forever you
And for a moment I lose myself
Wrapped in the pleasures of the world
I've journeyed here and there and back again
But in the same old haunts I still find my friends
Mysteries not ready to reveal
Sympathies I'm ready to return
I'll make the effort, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
Tomorrow's just an excuse
And you can make it last, forever you
You can make it last, forever you

Stripped

I chose to review tonight what will be my last solo female artist for a while as the last two entries have all been female singers of the POP & R'n'B genre. As this is my last one for a dozen or so entries I thought I would go out on what I consider a high in the realm of POP albums and why not seeing as Christina's Fourth Studio album is almost upon us... {BI-ON-IC} this was the perfect chance to review it and display what my favorite lyrics are on the album.

Christina Aguilera's second studio album Stripped was released in 2002 and caused a shit storm on release. The bubblegum POP princess known for her worldwide smash hit Genie In A Bottle came onto the scene swinging with a new persona known as Xtina and delivered an album that I think no one expected to see her release. I explained in my P!nk entry that when an artist is given free reign and control over their career and albums they deliver work that is true to them and not manufactured record label junk.

Stripped to me would come in the number one spot if I ever made a list of POP albums that showed an artist given creative control on their album. Stripped was Christina's attempt to destroy her good girl image and boy did she ever with this album. The album is extremely sexual, in your face and at it's core is a complete 360 for Christina. The albums content doesn't just stop there with one song in particular shedding a light on her abusive childhood and her mothers constant abuse. The album is a much more darker, moody and heartbreaking album then I think anyone expected while delivering some very big club bangers. Heavily infused with R'n'B as well proved that not only did she evolve from teen to woman. It is just the greatest fuck you to the people who thought she was just another pop tart.

Stripped to date has sold an estimated twelve million copies and while not being completely applauded on it's initial release. I believe as time has worn on that Stripped is now seen as a classic by many. It was exactly what she set out to do and prove to everyone that just because your first album is a bubblegum POP inspired album that their is a lot more to Christina Aguilera then meets the eye. My lyrics in this entry was hard. I absolutely love this album while being so hard to decide I have chosen four songs to reference my favorite lyrics/songs off the album.

I'M OK

Once upon a time there was a girl
In her early years she had to learn
How to grow up living in a war she called home
And never know just where to turn for shelter from the storm

Hurt me to see the pain across my mother's face
Every time my father's fist would put her in her place
Hearing all the yelling, I would cry up in my room
Hoping it would be over soon

Bruises fade father, but the pain remains the same
And I still remember how you kept me so afraid
The strength is my mother, for all the love that she gave
Every morning that I wake, I look back at yesterday
And I'm ok

I often wonder why I carried all this guilt
When it's you that helped me put up all these walls I've built
Shadows stir at night through a crack in the door
The echo of a broken child screaming "please no more"
Daddy don't you understand the damage you have done?
For you it's just a memory, But for me it still lives on

Bruises fade father, but the pain remains the same
And I still remember how you kept me so, so afraid
The strength is my mother, for all the love that she gave
Every morning that I wake, I look back at yesterday
And I'm ok

It's not so easy to forget
All the marks you left along her neck
When I was thrown against cold stairs
And everyday afraid to come home in fear of what I might
See next

Bruises fade father, but the pain remains the same
And I still remember how you kept me so afraid
The strength is my mother, for all the love that you gave
Every morning that I wake, I look back at yesterday
And I'm ok
I'm ok

WALK AWAY

What do you do when you know somethings bad for you
And you still can't let go?

I was naive
Your love was like candy
Artificially sweet
I was deceived by the wrapping

Got caught in your web
And I learned how to bleed
I was prey in your bed
And devoured completely

And it hurts my soul
Cause I can't let go
All these walls are caving in
I can't stop my suffering
I hate to show that I've lost control
Cause I, I keep going right back
To the one thing that I need to walk away from

I need to get away from ya
I need to walk away from ya
Get away, walk away, walk away

I should have known
That I was used for amusement
Couldn't see through the smoke
It was all an illusion

Now I've been licking my wounds (licking my wounds)
But the venom seeps deeper (deeper, deeper)
We both can seduce, but
Darling you hold me prisoner (prisoner)

I'm about to break
I can't stop this ache
I'm addicted to your allure
And I'm fiending for a cure
Every step I take
Leads to one mistake
I keep going right back
To the one thing that I need

I can't mend
This torn state I'm in
Getting nothing in return
What did I do to deserve
The pain of this slow burn
And everywhere I turn
I keep going right back
To the one thing that I need to walk away from

I need to get away from ya
I need to walk away from ya
Get away, walk away, walk away

Every time I try to grasp for air
I am smothered in despair
It's never over, over
Seems I'll never wake from this nightmare
I let out a silent prayer
Let it be over, over

Inside I'm screaming
Begging, Pleading no more
Ahhh...

Now what to do
My heart has been bruised
So sad but it's true
Each beat reminds me of you

It hurts my soul
Cause I can't let go
All these walls are caving in
I can't stop my suffering
I hate to show that I've lost control
Cause I, I keep going right back
To the one thing that I need

I'm about to break
And I can't stop this ache
I'm addicted to your allure
And I'm fiending for a cure
Every step I take
Leads to one mistake
I keep going right back
To the one thing that I need

I can't mend
This torn state I'm in
Getting nothing in return
What did I do to deserve
The pain of this slow burn
And everywhere I turn
I keep going back
To the one thing that I need to walk away from

I say
I need to get away from ya
I need to walk away from ya
Get away, walk away, walk away

Only thing I need to do is walk away

LOVING ME 4 ME

People ask if I'm in love with you
Because I'm sitting here with your picture
And smiling to myself (I smile)
I'm kinda lost in my own thoughts of you
My heart speaks before my mind thinks through
And I blush as I say yes (yes)

What a feeling of vulnerability coming over me
And I'm feeling weak and I can't speak (speak)
And I can't think
Never thought I'd give in so willingly to a human being
With abilities to set me free
Free, and let me be me
Makes me wanna say

Your lips, your eyes, your smile, your kiss
I must admit it's part of me
You please me, completely, believe me
Like a melody
Your soul, your flow, your youth, your truth
Is simply proof
We were meant to be
But the best quality that's hookin me
Is that you're loving me for me (loving me)
Is that you're loving me for me

People ask me why I'm in love with you
Well, let me start by saying
You got my heart by just being who you are
And what we got is between me and you
It doesn't matter about the money I make
Or what I do, or that I'm a huh, a star

Unconditionally you're there for me
Undeniably you inspire me, spiritually, Oh so sweet
This is meaningful, It's incredible, pleasurable, unforgettable
The way I feel, so surreal
Makes me want to say

Your lips, your eyes, your smile, your kiss
I must admit it's a part of me
You please me, completely, believe me
Like a melody
Your soul, your flow, your youth, your truth
Is simply proof
We were meant to be
But the best quality that's hookin me
Is that you're loving me for me (loving me)
Is that you're loving me for me (oh, oh yeah)

It's so amazing how something so sweet
Has come and rearranged my life
I've been kissed by destiny
Oh, heaven came and saved me
An angel was placed at my feet
This isn't ordinary, he's loving me for me

Stripped of all make up
No need for fancy clothes
No cover ups, push ups
With him, I don't have to put on a show
He loves every freckle every curve,
Every inch of my skin
Fulfilling me entirely, taking all of me in
He's real
He's honesty
And he's loving me for me yeah

THE VOICE WITHIN

Young girl don't cry
I'll be right here when your world starts to fall
Young girl it's alright
Your tears will dry, you'll soon be free to fly

When you're safe inside your room you tend to dream
Of a place where nothings harder than it seems
No one ever wants or bothers to explain
Of the heartache life can bring and what it means

When there's no one else, look inside yourself
Like your oldest friend just trust the voice within
Then you'll find the strength that will guide your way
You'll learn to begin to trust the voice within

Young girl don't hide
You'll never change if just run away
Young girl just hold tight
Soon you're gonna see your brighter day

Now in a world where innocence is quickly claimed
It's so hard to stand your ground when you're so afraid
No one reaches out a hand for you to hold
When you look outside look inside to your soul

When there's no one else, look inside yourself
Like your oldest friend just trust the voice within
Then you'll find the strength that will guide your way
You'll learn to begin to trust the voice within

Life is a journey
It can take you anywhere you choose to go
As long as you're learning
You'll find all you'll ever need to know
(be strong)
You'll break it
(hold on)
You'll make it
Just don't forsake it
No one can tell you what you can't do
No one can stop you
You know that I'm talking to you

When there's no one else, look inside yourself
Like your oldest friend just trust the voice within
Then you'll find the strength that will guide your way
You'll learn to begin to trust the voice within

Young girl don't cry
I'll be right here when your world starts to fall
